"Hospital bug deaths on the rise...". Increasingly the media remind us of the rising incidence and potentially devastating effects of hospital acquired infections, such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

Closer to home, these "super bugs" and indeed "lesser bugs" are also a cause for concern in our small animal practices. Where do these bacteria come from? What is so special about them? What practical steps can we take to minimise the risk of postoperative infection? What roles do the surgeon and nurse play? This forum aims to address these questions and provide practical tips on issues such as preparation of theatre, instruments, patient and surgeon. Both the veterinary surgeon's and veterinary nurse's viewpoints will be considered, and the evening is aimed to be of interest to veterinary surgeons and nurses alike. So bring along your VNs and trainees (and yourselves!) for what promises to be an informative and interactive evening of CPD.
